My Background:
My artistic mastery, deep passion for the beauty industry combined with an unparalleled ability to educate respectfully makes me one of the most sought-after hair artists in the trade.
After obtaining Bachelor of Arts, Science and Doctorate Degrees in other fields, I decided to follow my initial dream and become a hairdresser. In a very short time I built a thriving clientele as a stylist in the Los Angeles area and as a salon owner in Charlotte, North Carolina.
My ability to communicate theory and relevance to my audience blends my humor and practicality while showing the physics of creative texture, balance, blend and control within each haircut and style. Now my cutting and styling techniques are proudly available as an educator with the InfraShine® and Revolve™ lines of professional styling and cutting tools.
My Personal Side:
I’m actually very shy in a large setting or party. People who know me
in a professional setting have a difficult time believing it. They
only see the crazy, want to make everybody laugh, part of me. I do have
a very quiet contemplative side that keeps me grounded.
My Passion:
My passion with hair is cutting. I enjoy the physics of the head form,
angles of the cut, interior texturing and layering to create a design
that works for the individual client.
My creative ability lies in cutting for visual correctness not
necessarily technically correctness. Technically correct does not
always relate to the visual acuity of a style.
My Strengths:
My major strength is the ability to educate, not only from the stage
but also in the daily routine of the salon in the hour-to-hour dealing
with clients. It’s also in knowing how hair works from a physiological
and scientific point of view, which creates an atmosphere of knowledge
that you “know it’s going work”. No guess work.
My Greatest Accomplishments:
Growing out of and beyond that introverted kid who absolutely hated dodge ball because he was always the target.
Besides Hair, I Also Have Experience with:
I’ve sold clothes, run a linotype machine in a printing shop and sold
cheese in a mall. I have taught anatomy, physiology and chemistry at
the college level and spent years flipping homes in Southern
California. I have even designed and opened my own chiropractic clinic
in Los Angeles, fixing my patients’ hair before they left (yes, I’ve
found my calling).
My Favorite Job Ever:
TEACHING! Truly, this is one of the most incredibly rewarding jobs I
have ever had. To watch someone else succeed from my knowledge,
experience and ability is amazing.
What I Want To Be Known for:
My compassion! For knowing that we are all really the same and want
just to be loved and appreciated. I also want to be known for making
the hard things easier and I want people to remember and know me for
“My God he’s soooo funny”.
My Mentors:
My first mentor would be Sharon West, my beauty school Instructor.
After 9 years and 3 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, she was the
first instructor I ever had who actually listened and instructed. She
didn’t just teach, she showed, with patience and love.
My second mentor would be Ken Anders with Kenra Labs. He taught me how
to build a business with sound techniques and inspired me to teach and
create a network far beyond that shy southern boy.
